Graphic Design

A good graphic design can make all the difference in a website, direct-mail piece, brochure or advertisement. Many website designs have been surveyed, and most people read from left to right, just like the page of a book. They also scan the center of the page therefore it is important not to have a web page too cluttered. A good graphic design piece, whether it be on the Internet or print should clearly state to the viewer what the product or services are that you’re selling. Ambiguous graphics that don’t let you know right away, what you were supposed to look at, or give you some idea of what the product is, are a waste of time and money. If you are writing direct response advertising, your copy should immediately catch the attention of the reader. Just like the headline of a newspaper story.

Using Direct Response

The best direct response ads have a headline that immediately captures the reader’s attention and forces them to read the rest of the ad. I can’t stress enough to make sure that the reader knows what product or service you are selling by reading the ad. If they get to the bottom of the page, and they don’t know what to do——you have failed to capture them.

An immediate call to action should be in the copy of the ad and the copy should compel them to stop what they’re doing and order your product or service. All advertising whether it is on the web, in print, or television or radio should include several ways for the reader to respond, 800 numbers, web submit forms, fax or mail in for direct response should always be used as frequently as possible.
